LyX, the popular open-source WYSIWYM word processor, is an excellent program for writing technical documents. LyX, as could be expected, makes it very simple to insert buttons and icon captures as inline images.
To insert a graphic as an inline image in Lyx:
1. Place the insertion point where the inline image is to be inserted.
2. On the Insert menu, click Graphics.
3. Type the filename or browse for the image file to be inserted.
4. Modify the image dimension or rotation settings if needed.
5. Click Apply.
LibreOffice Writer, like Adobe FrameMaker, anchors a graphic that is inserted within a paragraph or line.
To insert a graphic as an inline image in LibreOffice Writer:
1. Place the insertion point where the inline image is to be inserted.
2. On the Insert menu, click Picture then From File.
3. The image will be inserted within a frame and will not necessarily be aligned with the text.
4. Click and drag the image to the location where the image should be positioned.
5. Place the insertion point one space or two spaces to the right of the word preceding the image. Continue typing the rest of the text. The continuing text will "jump" over the inserted image. Since the image is anchored to the location, it will not move as text is added.
Place the cursor a space or two before the inserted button and continue typing as if the image was not there. |
**Double-click the graphic twice to access Picture properties to change Anchor, Type, and Position settings.
