CNN provides a multimedia-heavy app for the iPad, which isn't nearly as good as the Flipboard or BBC app on iOS. The venerable news agency also has (should now be "had") a CNN Radio News Day podcast which aired its final episode on June 25, 2013. CNN has never been an objective news source nor a particularly entertaining one (CNN Travel is rife with biases and inaccuracies), but it's always sad to see a show suddenly put to pasture.
I only started listening to CNN Radio News this year. CNN surprisingly doesn't focus on audio as much as its British competitor, BBC. BBC has a wide range of podcasts and online programs and in addition, provides a more objective, entertaining and efficient approach to news compared to CNN. However, CNN Radio's somewhat anemic coverage was able to focus on smaller, inconsequential stories across good old US of A. This perspective often provides a better picture of grass roots America for international listeners than listening or reading about celebrities and headlines news. The newscasters and the show itself, however, used too much music to manipulate listeners and emphasized emotions rather than facts or accurate research.
The lead newscaster, Tommy Andres, thankfully, was annoying but not nearly as detestable as BBC's business commentator Lucy Kelloway. With CNN Radio News now at an end, it looks like it's all British news all the time (until a good app comes along).
